In our discussion of this week's double parsha Vayakel-Pekudei we talked a lot about what makes a community. The parsha starts, "And he assembled" the root of the word Vayakel is Kahal, or community. So, who or what make up our community? Is it the space that is detailed in these parshas, or the people who make and design that space? To me it is the people who we share our shabbat table with (also discussed in this week's parsha), the people you may only meet on zoom who share their art with you every week, and the people who you eat sushi with on holidays and to celebrate birthdays, even when you are stuck in the hospital.
To all of you in my many communities I wish you a safe and healthy weekend and a shabbat shalom.
