This week we read a double portion: Tazria-Metzora, we start with childbirth and move onto Tzaraat, a pretty awful disease sometimes called leprosy. These are not topics that we love to talk about.
Leann asked us to think about things that we skip, things we avoid. It seems like my list was made up of things that I SHOULD be doing, exercising, paying bills, eating breakfast, but as I started to think about it, there are also things that I avoid that actually make sense, maybe I should skip the bag of chips hiding in the pantry or the news story that will make me mad.
Tazaraat is a disease that manifests itself onto the skin of the afflicted person, but it also appears on the walls of the house. Neither the afflicted person nor the community can "skip" the disease. It is out there for everyone to see.
Maybe sometimes things need to be in our faces even if we want to avoid them, good and bad. When we know that someone needs help, we can help them.
I guess it is all part of adulting, knowing what to avoid and what not to. Junk food isn't always something to be avoided and when we make the phone call we have been avoiding, we will feel better.
